SurgeX®Adds the XN120 to the Eliminator Series®
The XN120 NEMA solution frees up valuable rack space, eliminates unsightly wires, and protects the most demanding AV system.
May 19, 2010 – SurgeX, the only manufacturer of AC surge elimination and power conditioning products, announces the XN120, the perfect protection solution for multi-circuit residential AV systems where space is at a premium. This compact 120 Volt / 80 Amp unit is hardwired as a subpanel at the service panel or the equipment room and is designed to provide failsafe protection required for multiple circuits
Engineered with professional grade Advanced Series Mode® Surge Elimination Technology and Impedance Tolerant® EMI/RFI noise filtering, the XN120 is the only NEMA enclosure protection product in the market that eliminates surges and transients that can degrade AV system performance and shorten service life. The XN120 frees up valuable rack space and eliminates the need for individual powerline conditioners. In most installations, there are panels located in each room that, until now, have needed to be protected separately. But, with the XN120, there is no need to protect each individual panel with a powerline conditioner at every site. When the panels are connected to a single circuit and fed through the XN120, the SurgeX unit will protect each panel on that circuit. There’s no in wall extension cords, nor individual units to install and maintain. One XN120 circuit will protect an average of 8 panels. In addition, every outlet powered by the XN120 is protected even though there is no PLC at the rack.
“The XN120 frees up the valuable rack space that you didn’t have before,” said Rick Komendera, Vice President of Sales for SurgeX. “It protects and conditions from either the equipment room, or the demarcation and acts just like separate subpanel for your AV system. There’s no in wall extension cords, nor multiple individual units to maintain.”
As with all SurgeX products, the XN120 boasts Advanced Series Mode® Surge Elimination Technology and Impedance Tolerant® EMI/RFI noise filtering which eliminates all surges without the side effects that come with traditional surge suppression products. Unlike sacrificial MOV based surge protectors, the XN120 completely eliminates ALL surges up to 6,000 Volts/3000 Amps without producing disturbances that can degrade the performance and shorten the service life of an A/V system. Because of this technology, installers have the confidence that their power protection unit will actually protect the equipment they are installing and not degrade or damage it over time.
With SurgeX A-1-1 Certified Advanced Series Mode® technology, equipment will run better, sound better, and improve picture quality. SurgeX has recently extended its industry leading warranty from ten to now an industry leading eleven year Connected Warranty which not only protects the SurgeX equipment, but also every device that is plugged in to a SurgeX product.

SurgeX Offsets Carbon Footprint with NativeEnergy — Forming a New Partnership to Help Support Renewable Energy’s Future
SurgeX, the world leader in power conditioning technology, has partnered with NativeEnergy to offset the company’s carbon footprint. These offsets are estimated to cover the impact of energy use at the company’s Pennsylvania facility, as well as company air travel for 2008. By partnering with
NativeEnergy, the company’s carbon footprint will be effectively offset, while bringing critical up-front financing to new renewable energy projects with considerable social value.
SurgeX is supporting NativeEnergy’s Farmer Distributed Wind portfolio, which helps build small- scale wind turbines on family farms. Currently there are close to 30 farms involved in this program. The farms in this project are located in the Mid-West and South-West of the country where reliable winds are available. Through its purchase, SurgeX is helping to reduce turbine costs to an acceptable price level for these farmers; helping reduce their long-term electricity costs and stabilize the electricity grid with distributed small-scale power generation.
Andy Benton, SurgeX Director of Engineering relates, “Earlier this year we finished converting all of our products to be lead-free and RoHS compliant. Then one day at a meeting we looked at each other and said, ‘What else could we do to make SurgeX greener?’ Someone mentioned that Google and Yahoo have both announced their intention to be carbon-neutral and to support clean energy. It didn’t take us long to decide we wanted to align SurgeX on that same forward-thinking plane.
SurgeX is now part of the solution and no longer part of the problem!”
“We are excited about partnering with SurgeX to achieve its sustainability goals,” says Tom Boucher, NativeEnergy President & CEO. “The high quality carbon offsets and social value of the renewable energy project SurgeX is supporting aligns nicely with those goals. We hope SurgeX’s leadership inspires other businesses to take similar action in helping us all realize a brighter energy future.”
NativeEnergy leverages market demand for carbon offsets to bring on line new Native American, family farmer and community-owned renewable energy projects. NativeEnergy offers third party verified and certified renewable energy credits and offsets from a variety of operating projects across America and internationally. Through its novel approach of bringing upfront payment to renewable projects for the estimated future carbon offsets, NativeEnergy enables its clients to help directly finance the construction of specific new wind farms and other renewable energy projects.
NativeEnergy continues to focus on real, additional offsets that provide environmental and social benefits, for both people and planet. More information is available at www.NativeEnergy.com.

SurgeX First to Go Green with RoHS Compliance
SurgeX, the worlds leading manufacturer of professional surge eliminators and AC power conditioners, announced that their product line is now RoHS compliant and is the first in this product category to do so.
“This effort on behalf of SurgeX ownership, engineering and material procurement has been a long process, but we are extremely proud of this important milestone for our company” said Michael McCook, SurgeX Senior Principal.
RoHS stands for ‘Restriction of Hazardous Substances’ in electrical and electronic equipment. The RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC was adopted in February 2003 by the European Union and took effect on 1 July 2006. This directive restricts the use of Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB), Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE) and Hexavalent Chromium.
Andy Benton, SurgeX Director of Engineering adds, “At SurgeX, we're not satisfied with just being a technology leader, we strive to be a leader in every way. Being the first US power conditioner manufacturer to embrace RoHS is just one more in a long line of firsts for us. But then on the personal level, it makes me happy to think that our products no longer contain harmful materials such as lead and will not pose a threat to future generations."
“With all the new Green initiatives our industry must now adopt in terms of RoHS and LEED, I would expect nothing less from SurgeX to be the first manufacturer to come in line with these necessary requirements. We are happy SurgeX has understood what needs to be done to continue to be the market leader in this segment” says manufacturer rep John Cardone of New York based Cardone, Solomon and Associates.
-SurgeX has been producing AC Power products for the professional A/V marketplace and Industry for over thirteen years and is located in Pipersville, Pennsylvania, USA.

SurgeX Unveils New Technologies
SurgeX has re-engineered its one-rack-space (1U) surge protectors and power conditioners to feature new Advanced Series Mode™ surge suppression and proprietary power-conditioning technologies such as Impedance Tolerant® EMI/RFI filtering, SurgeX ICE® Inrush Current Elimination®, and COUVS® catastrophic over/under-voltage shutdown.
Advanced Series Mode® technology is the latest generation of SurgeX's proven Series Mode circuitry, which uses an inductor as the first and primary surge-suppression component to intercept and contain destructive surge energy. There has never been a failure of Series Mode protected equipment. Unlike other approaches, Advanced Series Mode® technology does not rely on metal-oxide varistors (MOVs) as a sacrificial component. In addition, it creates no ground-wire contamination or common-mode surges and has zero let-through voltage.
